THE GARDEN SUITE

Featuring a queen-sized bed and ensuite full bath, the Green Room Garden Suite is the perfect getaway for your holiday to Marion. Beautifully decorated with period furniture and fine art, this suite is situated on the northeast corner of the house on the second floor, overlooking manicured lawns with orchard and a horse riding academy pasture in view.  Rate is based on the number of guests, weekday/weekend dates, and high (5/13  - 10/31) or low season (11/1 - 5/11).
 
THE NEWPORT SUITE
This spacious 2nd-floor suite offers two private areas sharing a private bath. The nautical Blue Room located on the southeast corner offers a queen bed, a single cot option, a large mahogany desk, two arm chairs, and a large walnut bureau. The luxurious Pink area of this suite rests on the Southwest corner of the house and links through a hallway to the Blue area. It offers guests two Windsor twin beds, a curved French bureau, two French chairs, and a closet. The room features original wide, "pumpkin" pine floors, and sunny windows overlooking gardens and orchard. Rate is based on the number of guests, weekday/weekend dates, and high (5/13 - 10/31) or low season (11/01 - 5/11).
 
THE MARION SUITE
Enjoy the beautiful hand-hewn beams and privacy of this large family suite on the whole 3rd floor of the house. There are two queen beds, a sitting area with queen futon, two twins, a two- single cot option, and an ensuite, private bath with dual vanity granite sinks, and a walk in closet. Please note that the staircase is steep and collar tie beams cross the room at 5'7" high.

Innkeepers Jean and George recently purchased Silvershell Inn in the spring of 2018 from Kate and her husband, the previous owners who converted the historic Cobb parsonage into a residential bed and breakfast. The new owners and hosts are committed to continuing the 5-star level of service for which the Inn is known.

Recently retired from 42-years of teaching, coaching sailing, and college mentoring students as well as hosting guests at The Stony Brook School, a well-known boarding school on Long Island, NY, Jean and George bring to Silvershell Inn a wide range of educational backgrounds, skills, and life experiences appropriate to hosting a bed and breakfast.

This creative and energetic couple first met during middle school on Long Island where they would sail together during summers. George temporarily left his "good friend" during high school to attend Tabor Academy in Marion, MA where he played varsity football (All New England), wrestling (All American) and crew ('67 & '69 Henley Regatta). Jean, while an accomplished athlete as well in both gymnastics and track, also established herself in high school as a talented actress through her outstanding performance in the lead role of Annie in Annie Get Your Gun that caught the attention of Broadway theatre scouts. Nevertheless, the two realized at George's Tabor graduation that they were more than just friends and decided two-years later to make their "partnership" permanent in Cambridge, MA where George was studying science and design at Harvard College and Jean was studying education and drama at Lesley College. 

After graduating college, the young married couple commenced their boarding school educational careers on Long Island: George teaching art, marine/environmental science, and running a three-season sailing program while Jean, after being a stay-at-home mom until their son and daughter entered middle school, joined the faculty to teach English and run the drama program. During this period, the couple restored an 1852 sea captain's home on Long Island and began accumulating their large collection of antique furnishings and art. George also designed and built the sets for Jean's many productions and she coached keelboat sailing for his marine programs. After their children left for college, the head of school offered them a five-bedroom house so they could effectively be the on-campus hosts for visiting guests, parents, alumni, and board members. So, for over 20-years, they were in effect running a bed and breakfast for the school. Therefore, it has been a wonderfully fulfilling transition for this husband and wife team to retire from teaching to take up the care of an historic inn in order to warmly host their honored guests.

Since procuring the Silvershell Inn last spring, the two "retirees" first focused on the Inn's interior by upgrading the furnishings with period furniture and art from their vast collection enabling them to reopen the inn last May. The next task was to clear all of the storm damage from last year's severe winter and to remove trees that would eventually come down in future storms. Storm damage repairs were also made to the barn and greenhouses. With a commitment to sustainability and conservation, a solar panel array was installed on the barn roof to provide the required electricity for the property. The raised bed vegetable gardens were revived and replanted, a privacy fence was installed, and hedges were planted. During last fall and this winter, the task was undertaken to remove from the house all of the cedar shingles, inspect and repair as needed the post and beam structure, and then re-apply new shingles and needed trim. The overall goal is to establish the preservation of the parsonage and to restore the homestead as a producing farm. 

The house and grounds are a perfectly located hub for visitors exploring the South Coast and offers easy day trips to Newport Providence, Boston, Plymouth Plantation, Cape Cod, and the ferries to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. The innkeepers live full time in their separate wing and are always available to meet the needs of their guests. One of the specialties of their service is a custom "to order" breakfast. A pleasant 2-mile walk down Front Street takes one by a park and nature preserve, coffee shops, microbrewery and gourmet restaurants, Tabor Academy, Sippican Harbor, historic Marion, and ends at the beautiful Silvershell beach overlooking Buzzards Bay. Beach passes, chairs, and an umbrella are provided for Silvershell guests

Silvershell Inn's history dates back to the first Congregational parish of Sippican, decades before Marion was incorporated. The home was built in 1799 for Reverend Oliver Cobb, and his descendants lived on the property until the mid-20th century. Oliver Cobb's son succeeded his father's post as the local pastor, and his descendants were prominent doctors through the 19th century. During WWII, one of the Cobb sons fought in France, fell in love and married a French florist, and returned home with her. The Cobb family then built for her the flower shop and two green houses which she operated for many years. Since several of Jean's and George's New England ancestors go back to the Mayflower, Revolutionary War, Civil War, and WWII, they are currently collecting artifacts and researching material in order to produce a screenplay about the American story focusing on the theme of love and war and how families have faced many challenges. The two innkeepers are always willing to share stories with other history buffs.

BOOKING POLICIES
If you choose to make a reservation with Silvershell Inn, you agree to the following terms:
1. Reservations are not secured until payment is received. 
2. Guests who cancel 2 weeks before check-in or sooner will be provided a 90% credit voucher towards a future reservation. All payments are final and non-refundable.
3. All guests must provide a valid/current credit card account for the duration of your stay. Damage done to the property by you or your guests will be billed to you, including accidental damage by children and or pets.
4. If guests choose to behave in a manner that compromises the comfort and/or safety of the owners, staff, fellow guests, or neighbors, Silvershell Inn reserves the right to require said guest(s) to exit the premises without a refund.
